What is the Philippine Heart Center - Out Patient Division?
The Philippine Heart Center - Out Patient Division (PHC-OPD) is one of the divisions of the Adult Cardiology Department which is under the Office of Medical Services (OMS). The Office of Medical Services, one of the major four divisions of the PHC, is under the Office of the Director.
In the performance of its functions, the OPD closely coordinates with other offices such as the Social Service Division, the Admitting Section, the Medical Records Section, Adult and Pediatric Cardiology Division, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Division, Non-Invasive Diagnostic Cardiology Division. Nursing services and other departments. The OPD renders outpatient medical services while providing the venue for the training of Cardiology, Pulmonary, medical and surgical fellows and affiliate doctors, nurses and other paramedical groups from other institutions. Its staff is composed of adult and pediatric cardiology consultants and its fellows, 4 medical technologists, 4 nurses, 6 nursing attendants and 6 clerks. Aside from giving quality medical services to cardiac and non-cardiac patients and to PHC employees, it also provides health education and awareness program for patients and relatives/companions, as well as medical clinics for PHC employees.
What are the various services offered of the Out Patient Clinics?
The OPD provides outpatient, non-emergement, medical services to patients with cardiac and pulmonary diseases and other related ailments. It also provides medical and surgical follow-up for post-operative patients and accommodates refferals from other institutions. Medical services are also extended to PHC employees.
The OPD clinics are divided into the following:

  3. ECG & Diagnostic Heart Package (Room 3)
  4. Surgery and Pulmonary Clinic (Room 4)
  5. Gen. Adult Cardiology Clinic (Room 5)
  6. Specialty Clinic (Room 6)
  7. Employee's Infirmary Clinic (Room 7)
The OPD operates on a first-come, first-served basis, Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, except on non-working holidays.

What do I need to bring with me to the OPD clinic?

How do I make an appointment to the OPD clinic? Report to the Screening section on a first-come, first-served basis. After consultation, the nurse/nurse attendant will provide information on the doctor's requests and your next visit will be written on your OPD card. How do I determine my clinic assignment? For all patients (Adult, pediatric/neonate - proceed to the Screening Room (Room 1)

Who will evaluate me?

How do I acquire an OPD card?
  1. Proceed to Screening Room
  2. Once evaluated to have a cardiac ailment, you will be reffered to the Social Service Division for financial evaluation.
  3. Those with a medical certificate indicating a diagnosis of heart disease from private doctors, patients will be directed to proceed to Social Service Division.

  2. The validation date of the social service category which is indicated in the card must be properly observed.

How can I avail the Diagnostic Heart Package?
  1. A referral from your physician is needed.
  2. If any, present your laboratory requests to the ECG & Heart Package Room (Room 3).

What happens at the OPD clinic?
  1. You will be attended by a nurse or nursing attendant.
  2. Vital signs will be recorded, e.g. Blood pressure.
  3. Assessment and/or instructions will be provided before consultation.
  4. Wait for your number to be called at the OPD central waiting area.
  5. Consultation is based on a first-come, first-served basis.

What will happen during my consultation?
  1. The physician will do a medical evaluation and assessment.
  2. Necessary laboratory exams will be reviewed.
  3. Medications will be prescribed accordingly, as needed.
  4. You will be given a chance to interact and discuss the prognosis of the disease.
